To coincide with the exhibition 'Astro-poems and vertical group exercises: Concrete Poetry at CSA' at Chelsea Space (13 June - 13 July), the panel discussion includes Stephen Bann, Charles Verey and Chris Yetton, chaired by the curator of the exhibition, Gustavo Grandal Montero. The focus of the conversation will be Concrete poetry and the visual arts of the second half of the 1960s; Chelsea School of Art and British art schools at that time; and the life and work of Tom Edmonds (1944-1971), student and later lecturer at CSA, and influential designer, artist and educator Edward Wright (1912-1988), Head of Graphics at CSA 1963-1977.
 
Professor Stephen Bann (CBE, FBA, Emeritus Professor of History of Art, U. of Bristol) is an art historian, critic and curator. His involvement with Concrete poetry starts in 1964 and he assisted in planning the First International Exhibition of Concrete and Kinetic Poetry (Cambridge, 1964).He was director of the Concrete Poetry Exhibition at the Brighton Festival in 1967. In addition to his critical writing, he edited two of the first anthologies of Concrete poetry in English, as well as being a practitioner.
 
Charles Verey trained at the Slade School (1959 -1963) and was introduced to Dom Sylvester Houédard in 1965 by Bob Cobbing at a poetry symposium in Nottingham. He created the imprint South Street in 1966, and between 1966-69 co-organised a series of Concrete poetry exhibitions with Dom Sylvester, John Furnival and Ken Cox, at Arlington Mill in Gloucestershire. Since 1971 he has been associated with Beshara, as a student and Trustee. He edited Ceolfrith 15: Dom Sylvester Houédard in 1972 and is currently working on a new biography of this artist.
 
Chris Yetton is an art historian and writer. He lectured art history at Chelsea School of Art from 1963 to 2005, having led the Art History department and retiring as Dean of Fine Art.  He taught Tom Edmonds as an undergraduate at Chelsea and was a friend and colleague of Ed Wright. With an interest in Concrete art and musique concrète, he has written on John Carter, Roger Ackling, Ian Stephenson and James Hugonin.
