Claudia and Tullis invite you to join them in considering your ear muscles and your collections of plastic musical data storage as simultaneously individual and shared. Within the framework of Points of Listening, two sound experiences will become opportunities for communal conversing. Though the starting point and approach of each work is distinct, the material in both cases negotiates the wonders of listening.
Auricularis Superior… or let your ear muscles roam meditates on the relational and gloriously multi-sensory nature of our listening, which frequently catapults us, via our imagination and memory, through time and space. It is experienced via headphones (which will be provided) and was created for Field Studies and hcmf// in tribute to the late Pauline Oliveros.
Muscle Memory is Tullis Rennie’s invitation to join him in the act of listening to listening. Listening as an event. The listener as collaborator. To consider music and identity in combination. Recordings catalogued as autobiographical accounts, and collective cultural documentation. To understand music as a performance in which we are all implicated and involved, whether by playing, buying, streaming, dancing, or listening. https://muscle-memory.co.uk/

Claudia Molitor is a composer, artist, improvising pianist whose work draws on traditions of music and sound art but also extends to video, performance and fine art practices. Exploring the relationships between listening and other sensory experiences, as well as embracing collaboration as compositional practice is central to this work. Recent work includes Sonorama with Electra Productions, Turner Contemporary and the British Library, which received a British Composer Award in 2016, Vast White Stillness for Spitalfields Festival and Brighton Festival, The Singing Bridge, installed at Somerset House and Waterloo Bridge during Totally Thames festival and Walking with Partch for Ensemble Musikfabrik at hcmf//. www.claudiamolitor.org
Tullis Rennie is a composer, improvising trombonist, electronic musician, and field recordist. He currently lives in London. His work encompasses sound installation, community-engaged participative projects, multi-channel concert works, video, mixed media and live/improvised performances. He is co-founder of Walls On Walls with visual artist Laurie Nouchka, and a founder member of Insectotròpics, an audio-visual collective based in Barcelona. His work has been presented at concerts and festivals in 15 countries, alongside national broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and ResonanceFM. He features on recent recordings released by the Luminous label, ZeroWave and Efpi Records. http://www.tullisrennie.com.

A research centre of the University of the Arts London dedicated to the exploration of the rich complexities of sound as an artistic practice. Our main aim is to extend the development of the emerging disciplinary field of sound arts and to encourage the broadening and deepening of the discursive context in which sound arts is practised.
