Chair: Charlotte Bonham-Carter (CSM)

Do arts organisations find it hard to balance their aesthetic visions with the need to make money to survive or grow? What are the opportunities for staff in arts organisations that emerge from thinking about their organizational business models?  What are the implications of foregrounding the business model concept in the arts and cultural sector? This panel discussion will provide an opportunity to examine these questions. It will present findings from UAL’s contributions to Creative Lenses, a four-year European project funded by the Creative Europe programme.

Members of the UAL team will share the research to date, which will give different perspectives on the topic of business models and business modelling in performing arts organisations and mixed arts venues based on action research, interviews, a survey and literature reviews. The event will be of interest to PhD and MA students; managers, producers and staff in arts organisations; and those interested in business model innovation and cultural policy more generally.
