The Generation Exchange
will develop from an innovative, collaborative process bringing together members of Merton Age UK and 2nd year BA Fine Art Painting Students from Wimbledon College of Arts.
The two groups will take collective walks as a trigger for shared memories and conversations. The dialogue will then form a starting point for installations in Wimbledon Space. The students and members of Merton Age UK will work together in a type of visual and material call and response, so that their conversations will be in the form of a shared practice.
The project represents a mode of participatory practice whereby the students and members of Merton Age UK, play a leading and active creative role. In this, The Generation Exchange will operate with a model of participatory practice, intimated by Claire Bishop where she describes, ‘the desire to create an active subject, one who will be empowered by the experience of physical or symbolic participation.’
Barbaresi & Round have collaborated since 2005, exploring aspects of spaces, places and their relation to identity. At the heart of their working process is an engagement with people as part of the meaning of place.
