In this celebrated classic, Brecht transforms a simple parable highlighting the conflict between the law and natural justice, into a brilliantly provocative dissection of capitalism, socialism, militarism, and motherhood. First produced in 1938, this recent translation by Alistair Beaton, clearly demonstrates how relevant the central story, concerning the plight of a refugee, remains today.
