22 Jun - 26 Jun 2016

Internationally renowned, French performer and sculptor, Olivier de Sagazan will continue an ongoing collaboration with the final year MA Performance Design and Practice students at Central Saint Martins with free workshop performances open to the public during Show Two (22 - 26 June). Following a mutually inspiring Masterclass led by de Sagazan in February, the MA PDP students will continue their collaborative explorations with the artist as part of de Sagazan’s ongoing ‘Transfiguration’ performance series featured in Ron Fricke’s film Samsara (2011).

‘For more than 20 years, Olivier de Sagazan has developed a hybrid practice that integrates painting, photography, sculpture, and performance. In his existential performative series “Transfiguration”, which he began in 2001, de Sagazan builds layers of clay and paint onto his own face and body to transform, take apart and disfigure his own face revealing an animalistic human. At once disquieting and deeply moving, this new body of work collapses the boundaries between the physical, intellectual, spiritual and animalistic senses. Olivier has exhibited widely in France, Canada, Brazil and Korea in art galleries, museums, and film festivals.’

Performances are free and presented as part of Central Saint Martins Degree Show Two, with a running time of approximately 40 minutes. Please note this performance contains nudity.
