6pm to 7pm

First Tuesdays are new monthly events run by Careers and Employability for students and recent graduates who want to find out more about starting out in business and becoming self-employed.

Join us on the First Tuesday of each month in the UAL Showroom from 6pm until 7pm. Come and discuss your business ideas, problems and dreams; meet recent graduates and hear about their experiences; connect with potential collaborators; find out about support available through Careers and Employability. Our plan is to help you feel connected and supported as you explore if setting up a business or starting out as self-employed is the right thing for you.

Our first event is on Tuesday 1 November and will explore the theme:

Where do great business ideas come from?

A great business might start with a brilliant idea, but any entrepreneur will tell you it takes hard graft, long hours and substantial commitment to turn an idea into a great business. Come along to hear from three recent SEED Fund winners and find out about their inspiration and what it's taken them to turn their ideas into reality.

Speakers will include:

Emily Bridge and Emma Witter
Emily and Emma are a London based artistic partnership, with a cross-disciplinary practice in set design and sculpture. They met on the Performance Design and Practice course at Central Saint Martins and first collaborate under the name Beast & Burden.

Lia Mazzari
LCC BA Sound Art and Design graduate, Lia, and her team are converting the abandoned water tank and machine room at V22’s Artist’s Studios in Lewisham into a communal arts/event space and café. Tank will be a cultural space where locals and artists of all ages and backgrounds can come together to create and perform.

Shawn Soh
Shawn Soh is a Singaporean multi-disciplinary visual artist based in London. He graduated from BA Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins and is the co-founder of theatre production company PIGDOG Productions. PIGDOG’s recent cult- hit production, Karagula, was awarded 8 Off-West End Award nominations, of which Shawn was nominated as Best Costume Designer.

We will also be launching the ‘Think it’ ideas competition, with the chance to win £100 for the best business idea.

This event is organised by Careers and Employability and is for UAL students and recent graduates ONLY.
